The medical community defines several illnesses and diseases as “silent killers.” Medical illnesses like osteoporosis, obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, high cholesterol, mesothelioma, high blood pressure, heart disease and several types of cancer like colon cancer, lung cancer, rectal cancer, and breast cancer are well known silent killers.

These medical maladies are known as silent killers because early on in the medical problem there are often no symptoms to demonstrate that an issue exists. Then as the medical problem develops, however, and as the medical issues start to emerge, a medical calamity can result.

Careless and Hazardous Drinking Is a Silent Killer

I contend that excessive drinking is also a silent killer. As a matter of fact, some individuals can drink for many years without experiencing any destructive alcohol related difficulties in their lives. When abusive and hazardous drinking continues for many years, however, severe alcohol effects become more apparent and more taxing. Perhaps the best example about which I am talking happens during the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction.

Unmistakably, many alcohol related difficulties can be cloaked and fairly easily hidden while a person involves himself or herself in irresponsible and excessive drinking. When the person in reality becomes a chronic alcohol abuser or an alcohol addicted individual, it can be stated, the damaging alcohol outcomes become quite evident and more serious. Sadly, this information about alcoholism and alcohol abuse doesn’t seem to be discussed as much as it could be.

Areas in Life That are Adversely Affected by Excessive and Careless Drinking As Time Continues

What are some of the problem areas that are adversely affected over time by continuous and repeated abusive and irresponsible drinking? In the beginning, when individuals involve themselves in irresponsible and hazardous drinking, they are typically unaware of what their alcohol abuse is doing to their finances, to their mental health, to their jobs, to their relationships, and to their health.

As the abusive and heavy drinking is repeated over time, conversely, it often leads to commitment, relationship, friendship, communication, and marital difficulties and frequently results in affairs and divorce. In a similar manner, many, if not most people who involve themselves in alcohol abuse in the long run suffer from alcohol related health issues such as hangovers, sleep disturbances, alcohol poisoning, and a loss of energy. Other alcohol induced medical issues include the following: sexual problems, liver disease, nerve damage, stomach ulcers, and vitamin deficiency.

What is more, many, if not most people who involve themselves in alcohol abuse in due course go through alcohol induced financial problems. Paradoxically, while many drinkers grumble about their financial predicament, they habitually make their financial situation even worse by spending more of their money on alcohol.

Stress Management, Time Management, and Anger Management Difficulties

In a similar way, abusive drinking normally leads to stress management, anger management, and time management difficulties. Additionally, many, if not most people who engage in alcohol abuse, due to their excessive and irresponsible drinking, eventually exhibit work issues such as alcohol related accidents, showing up late for work, poor performance evaluations, absenteeism, and making mistakes on the job.

Mental Health Problems Such As Depression

Additionally, excessive and hazardous drinking in due course leads to different mental health problems like extreme mood swings, denial, anxiety, obsession, and depression. And finally, it should come as no shock that individuals who involve themselves in alcohol abuse can get a DWI almost any day or night of the week due to their heavy and excessive drinking and driving.

The Lesson to be Learned

The bottom line is this: people who engage in irresponsible drinking need to learn how to drink in moderation or get the alcohol detox and the alcohol rehab they require. This is important for individuals who involve themselves in hazardous drinking so that they can either drink responsibly and in moderation or start to lead an alcohol free life and abstain from the large number of alcohol induced situations outlined above. Obviously, receiving exceptional alcohol abuse help will be important along these lines.

It is also significant for individuals who engage in irresponsible drinking to either learn how to drink in moderation or totally abstain from drinking so that they can avoid a life of alcohol addiction. In a word, individuals who involve themselves in excessive drinking need to abstain from irresponsible drinking so that they can avoid the alcohol induced silent killers that are interlinked with hazardous drinking. Again, receiving quality alcohol abuse rehab will obviously go a long way toward achieving this goal.

Denny is a seventeen-year-old teenager who has finally made up his mind to go and see his healthcare practitioner about his careless drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to essentially go on the world wide web, look for some basic alcohol info and decide whether or not he was alcohol dependent.

Not unexpectedly, he found several websites that outlined some of the common alcoholism symptoms. That’s the good news. The less positive news, sadly, was that Denny presented many of these alcoholism symptoms.

Symptoms of Alcohol Addiction: Some Examples

For example, Denny has been drinking significantly more than normal and he has begun to have more highly charged bickering with his girlfriend. In addition, for the first time in his life he has been suffering through sleeping issues. In a similar way, Denny time and again has felt depressed and on an increasing basis he has been demonstrating limited concentration at school. In addition, he has felt stressed out and more edgy on a regular basis and for the past eight or nine months he has manifested unclear thinking at school. Given that Denny has been exhibiting all of these symptoms, he was understandably concerned about his excessive and hazardous drinking.

So Denny eventually determined that he needed to contact his family physician and schedule an appointment. In reality, this was tough for Denny because his family doctor was also his parents’ family physician. The springboard for his distress was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and expose his careless and abusive drinking behavior to his family physician.

When Denny arrived at the family healthcare practitioner’s office, he truthfully told the healthcare practitioner about the apprehension he feels about his hazardous drinking behavior. When the healthcare practitioner asked what was inducing this fear, Denny declared that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then mentioned all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he obviously thought he possesses.

An In Depth Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment

The family physician told Denny that it was prudent of him to focus on his drinking difficulties, he gave Denny a comprehensive physical assessment, and suggested that he talk to his parents about registering in an out-patient alcohol rehab program that was supervised by Doctor Davis, one of his doctor associates who is a substance abuse and alcohol abuse specialist.

What is more, when Denny articulated that he has been feeling depressed to an increasing extent, the healthcare practitioner informed Denny that depression and alcoholism many times take place in the same individual. Hence, the family physician also recommended that Denny talk to his Mother and Father about obtaining therapy in order to attend to his depression. In fact, Denny can go to the local mental health facility and make an appointment with Doctor Verlich, a renowned psychologist who specializes in treating youth.

The Advantage of Handling Your Drinking Issues and Getting Enthused About Making Positive and Healthy Changes in Your Life

The family doctor made it a point to notify Denny that he might not inevitably be alcohol dependent, but that he was obviously drinking in an irresponsible manner. Stated differently, Denny was involving himself in teen alcohol abuse. The healthcare professional then notified Denny that the reason he recommended alcohol treatment in the first place was because he wanted him to face up to his drinking problems, make sure that he prevented them from going from bad to worse, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to completely refrain from drinking.

In short, by effectively treating his drinking difficulties, Denny would be able to get his drinking problems under control and refrain from the negative series of events that could most likely lead to addiction to alcohol.

Denny understandably did not look forward to facing his Mother and Father about his drinking problems and his depression. And he surely did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol rehabilitation facility. And finally, he was not overjoyed about going to a clinical psychologist about his depression. Despite these fears, nevertheless, Denny in actual fact felt some emotional relief for the first time in many months because at last he gave up making excuses for himself and at long last decided to do something constructive about his hazardous drinking. And it was apparent that this decision helped to enhance his self esteem and personal happiness.

Diane drank quite frequently with her classmates. One Friday after all of her classes were finished, she started thinking about the amount of alcohol she consumed and the careless and hazardous drinking of her friends. As a result of this, she asked all of her drinking pals the following question: “what do we really know about alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcoholism? In other words, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our age, we obviously drink in an abusive manner and I am really starting to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-associated problems in the not so distant future.

I believe we should go online and find out all that is possible about alcohol abuse, alcoholism, binge drinking, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any nagging issues that we can’t understand after we complete our Internet research, we can schedule an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Butler to help us understand what we don’t know.”

It Shouldn’t Come as a Great Surprise That What Diane Discussed Would Instigate a Heated Discussion

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that what Diane mentioned would result in a heated discussion. As a case in point, her closest friend since the first grade, Lia, said that they are too young and too healthy to be concerned about hazardous and excessive drinking. Another classmate named Salvador believed that since most high school students drink there’s no good reason why they should be any different. Another classmate named Eva stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her buddies. And still another pal named Maurice essentially agreed with Diane basically because both of his parents abused alcohol and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related difficulties.

Diane explained to her friends that she comprehended everything that they had said but that engaging in excessive and irresponsible drinking at such a susceptible age in reality can’t be very healthy or something that contributes toward developing a meaningful life. When two or three of her drinking pals asked what kind of alcohol difficulties Diane was discussing, Diane articulated the following: alcohol-related problems like alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, and alcoholism and alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer.

Abusive Drinking Commonly Results in Alcohol-Related Problems

When Diane then emphasized that abusive and irresponsible drinking often results in legal, relationship, financial, and school problems, some of her friends finally started to understand how wide-ranging and how devastating abusive and hazardous drinking can be. Undeniably some of her drinking friends became more “open” and started to disclose how these alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse effects had affected some of their friends and their parents.

After discussing some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse problems that are related to careless and abusive drinking, the vast majority of her buddies seemed to agree to the idea about getting information on the web. They were, on the other hand, apprehensive about discussing their drinking situations with any of the teachers at school. As Diane thought about this she told herself, “at least they are willing to find out more about their hazardous and abusive drinking. This is a very fine start.”

In your search for a wellness solution, it’s paramount to know what your sweet spot is. Each one of us has a sweet spot. That’s the place where you’re most happy and most successful. And if you don’t know what your sweet spot is, how will you know how to get to it and when you actually reach it?

For many of us, we are not properly placed. Whether it is in school or in the working world, many of us are just surviving in lives. Maybe, if we’re lucky, our sweet spot is nothing more than a vague daydream. What we do know for certain is we’re are not in a place that provides us the best opportunity for happiness, success and fulfillment.

Sometimes where we are is a result of our choosing and we have resigned ourselves to accept it. We tell ourselves why our current spot is OK or even necessary, when in fact, that’s not true. Sometimes circumstances are not to our liking, so we try to do something about it and stall out when we can’t decide where to go next.

You are far, far from alone, if the latter is where you would place yourself. In today’s media-blitzed world that we live in, we are presented with countless messages on an ongoing basis that propose to have the answer to what we seek. However, I believe the key to finding your sweet spot, your place in life where you can flourish, is to increase your self-awareness about who you are, what you are good at, what you want in life and where your talent fits best.

Tools are available to help you acquire this knowledge. Additionally, now we even have life coaches like yours truly who are trained to help you in this quest.

Whether you decide to use self-knowledge tools, engage with a life coach, or even both, you can acquire important knowledge about yourself that will help you get to where you need to be. In fact, if are are to find your wellness solution, self-knowledge is a must.

A life coach, also sometimes called a self-improvement coach, will help you work through the pitfalls that often prevent dreams from becoming reality. Self-knowledge can help you get to the next level or provide that next step beyond surviving day-to-day, while a life coach can help navigate the self-knowledge.

A qualified life coach can help you open up a whole new world of opportunity. You and your coach can inject a new motivation to wake up in the morning and want to get out of bed. It’s a wellness solution that leads to an inspirational life adventure where you are successful, happy and fulfilled. That’s what living life in your sweet spot is like.

Around three months ago I had lunch with a thirty-three-year-old man named Alexander who suffers from intense depression, has relationship difficulties, and who is addicted to alcohol and drugs. As articulated by Alexander, it is his alcohol and drug addiction and his severe depression that had the most to do with his recurring relationship and spirituality problems.

I recollect reading that a history of mental health issues, substance abuse, and hazardous and excessive drinking commonly take place in the same family. Moreover, I have read that in such situations, a person needs to get counseling for both medical problems and that dependency and mental health difficulties often take place in the same individual.

As articulated by Alexander, he is so dejected by his relationship problems and by both of his medical problems that he essentially has no enthusiasm to accomplish much of anything. What is particularly sad about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander completed five semesters of grad school in gender and sexuality studies.

Alexander’s condition makes me wonder if he is an example of a person who can look within and perceive his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something meaningful about these difficulties or if he is a person who has to hit rock-bottom before he gets alcohol and drug dependency treatment that results in long lasting sobriety.

The Need For a Rehabilitation Protocol He Can Believe In and a Doctor He Can Trust

If it would be beneficial I would suppose that I could advise him about a number of websites that could possibly help him find information about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, chemical dependency information, and relationship difficulties. In my opinion, nevertheless, Alexander needs to find a rehab program he can believe in and follow through over the long term and find a physician he can trust.

I could be in the wrong but it seems to me that Alexander more likely than not needs to look honestly at his life regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and understand the fact that he cannot use drugs or even drink in moderation if he wants to get sober, stay sober, and start on the path to long-term sobriety.

It may be asked how therapy would help his alcohol and drug dependency. First of all, there are a number of recently created physician-prescribed medications that can help Alexander through his withdrawal symptoms, through the alcohol and alcohol detox process, and help him avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse.

Second, Alexander would learn to acknowledge the fact that there is utterly nothing affirmative about drug abuse and excessive and hazardous drinking and that involving himself in one or both situations is the map to legal problems, financial difficulties, poor work and school performance, shattered relationships, a premature death and deteriorating health.

Third, treatment for his relationship issues and his depression might help him deal with these conditions more effectively and perhaps create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior.

The Importance of Support Groups Such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous

There are more likely than not quite a few family members, friends, and other people who would offer to help Alexander with his drug addiction and his hazardous and excessive drinking. He possibly would experience greater understanding from a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, however, instead of listening to individuals who drink responsibly or who have never taken drugs.

When People Accomplish Things They Like and About Which They Are Passionate

There’s a philosophical attitude that contends that people who do things they love and something about which they are zealous reach a magnificent place in life. That is, when people do what they love, they almost never go through an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is rewarding, furthermore, they become more actualized and experience more happiness and joy in life and in their relationships.

When this is thought about even for a few minutes it becomes obvious that this uplifting mindset is diametrically opposed to a life that is centered in substance abuse because such a lifestyle removes the happiness and delight that life offers.

Due to the fact that Alexander lacks the drive to accomplish much of anything in his life, it is obvious that he urgently needs some hope for a better existence. And the sad thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Alexander if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he needs for his intense depression and alcohol dependency and drug addiction and continue with his treatment program.

More Meaningful Relationships, Happiness and a Stronger Sense of Spirituality, A Wonderful Life, Self Esteem, and Positive Change Are Possibilities

Alexander is clearly too young to be defeated in life. He doesn’t comprehend this at the moment but if he can learn how to refrain from alcohol and drugs through drug and alcohol therapy and get the counseling he requires for his severe depression, he can turn his life around and start living with self-respect, direction, and passion.

Enhanced relationships, a stronger sense of spirituality and happiness, positive change, self esteem, and a meaningful life are certainly a reality for Alexander if only he could get inspired to get the professional rehabilitation he requires, follow through with his treatment regimen, live his life in a dependency-free and healthy way, and learn how to acquire a more positive attitude about his existence.

And it was apparent that this decision helped to enhance his self esteem and his spirituality.

This week I was sitting on the phone with tech support, and over and over again, I thought of things I could have done while I sat there — waiting — not living my life. Are you on hold?in your life? Are you waiting for a spouse to come along, or for him/her to act better towards you? Are you waiting on the motivation to get your home organized? Are you waiting on a great job to fall into your lap? Are you waiting on winning the lottery to plan your retirement? Stop waiting on your life! The only difference between you and the people who are getting what they want, is that they kept moving and you didn’t. Here are some ideas to help get you started again. Focus on the who, not the what. If you find that you’re been stuck in a goal for a while, try restating it in who am I?terms instead of that I want?terms. For example, instead of saying want to lose 30 lbs. say I am someone who takes care of herself by keeping my weight around XXX which is a healthy range for my height and age.? Be as specific as possible.

Notice that I want to be someone who helps others?could mean anything from a clerk in the grocery store to a heart surgeon. Focus on who you want to be. Then ask yourself what actions would be fit with your desire Analyze it. Did you know that a full 80% of your problems come from 20% of your life? It’s true! Determine what that 20% is that’s affecting so much of your life, and start working to make it happier, more efficient, more satisfying. Assign Value. A big mistake I see in my coaching clients is not assigning a true value to your time, to your energy, to your money, and to the real estate?(space) of your home or office. Realize that for each thing you say Yes to — from a pair of shoes to watching a movie — you have said No to something else. Always ask yourself – is this valuable enough to me to crowd my life with, or even to bump something else from my closet, my schedule, my money? Establish routines. I know you have pizza night?- so why not sills night or clean your room night?as well? Like the pizza night, routines show up in all kinds of ways in your life.

There are two types of people in the world. First you have those who were born with the organization gene; second are those who were not. Are you part of the second group of people? Don’t worry! There is still hope for you to keep your small business organized.

The advantages are great. A person who is organized can complete their work much more efficiently. The remember key meetings and events more often. They feel less stressed and out of control. So here are some practical tips for those of us who don’t have the organizational gene built in:

Don’t Leave a Messy Workplace at Night

Never leave your workspace at night until you have taken a few minutes to clean up your desk. Gather your pens, stapler, and other tools together so you can find them in the morning. Throw out the trash and get rid of any used cups or other things that don’t belong.

The most critical part of this step is to gather your paperwork into a rough order of how you want to handle it the next day. While you’re at it, start a to-do list for the next day, and label each item “A” “B” or “C” depending on how important it is to complete.

The ten minutes these simple tasks take each night will be rewarded by your ability to jump in and start the day running each morning.

Organize Work Product Using the Rule of 3

There will always be those people who know right where everything they need is at any time. Then, you have all the rest of us. The rule of 3 is a helpful technique that has worked for me in finding work betters when I need them.

The idea is not tricky. Never have more than 3 stacks going at a time. Stack number 1 contains your most pressing things – those you want to accomplish today. The second stack should hold those that need to be handled within the week, and finally those within the month. This may take a few minutes to create the first time, but in the long run it will save you ton of time from having to look through every paper on your desk for the one that you really need.

Don’t Wait

Ultimately, the longer you wait to find an organization system that works for you and your small business, the more opportunities you miss for your small business. Being organized allows you to spend more of your day focused on your small business and making it a success. And remember, one person’s organization is another person’s nightmare. So find a system you can call your own and stick with it.

Get more small business success strategies and claim your free white paper: “7 Ways Your Stone-Age Accounting System is Stealing Money From You Every Day … And, How to Get it Back This Year” to learn about an online accounting program that makes it simple to organize your accounting and finance.

Wendy had been feeling quite anxious lately and started to “medicate” herself by having several screwdrivers each evening after she put her children to bed. After about four weeks of this drinking routine, she finally realized that instead of helping her ”chill out” and ”muddle through” her issues, drinking made her feel less restful when she got up in the morning. This, in turn, made her feel more stressed throughout the day.

After thinking about her circumstance for two or three days, Wendy decided to “open up” about her drinking situation with her best friend. In fact, just about twenty minutes into their chat, Wendy’s friend, Ashley, told her about a very knowledgeable and professional doctor at the local alcohol and drug treatment clinic. After talking to her friend, Wendy without much ado got motivated to call the treatment clinic and schedule an appointment.

Nine days later she finally got to meet the doctor her friend had talked about. After their brief introduction, Wendy told the physician that ever since she and her husband got divorced, she has been having a hard time spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

At times, she felt that she was 100% over the divorce. Recently, though, she has been feeling extremely depressed about the fact that she and her former husband couldn’t “make it”. When asked by the doctor how long her ex-husband and she dated before they got married, Wendy told the psychiatrist that she and her former husband, Robert, dated for three years and then lived together for two years before they got married.

As Wendy was talking to the doctor, she highlighted the point that she truthfully believed that she and her former husband waited long enough to know each other well enough before they got married. After the kids started to arrive, to the contrary, just about everything seemed to fall apart. What is more, both she and Robert started to drink, and their unhealthy drinking adversely affected their relationship, their finances, and their love for one another.

When things went from bad to worse, Robert got a lawyer and filed for a divorce. Even though things were clearly not going well and even though she was habitually depressed, Wendy told the physician that she did not want to end their relationship. Once she received the divorce papers, however, she knew that their marriage was over.

The physician told Wendy that the anxiety, tension, and stress that she has been suffering from regarding her excessive and irresponsible drinking are some of the common alcohol abuse effects and that the best solution for this situation is rehabilitation for one’s alcohol abuse. In fact, getting alcohol abuse treatment is essential because repeated drinking can get the drinker into even more severe alcohol and alcoholism problems.

After a number of counseling sessions with her physician, Wendy was gradually able to realize that the real basis of her stress and her depression was that she had not worked through her resentful feelings she has for her former husband who had divorced her five years ago. With these insights and with the drugs her psychiatrist prescribed, she eventually refrained from drinking, she started to feel much less depressed, and she began making more time for social activities with her family and friends. A few months after getting therapy from her psychiatrist, she even began to date once again.

It was clear that Wendy had come a long way. Indeed, just about seven months after she stopped her rehab, Wendy had finally laid the negative feelings of her former husband to rest and was starting to feel more self worth and more spiritually “sound” and psychologically “together” than she had ever felt in her life.

There are all sorts of reasons why people would want to make sure that they workout and keep fit. Lets just examine the main possible ones.

First up, working out and keeping fit is absolutely crucial in maintaining healthy body functions and in helping to to avoid illness and live longer. If you have a lifestyle full of drinking and smoking and you fail to get fit, then you will no doubt come up against some sort of medical problem as time goes on. In order to avoid this, building yourself a healthy lifestyle full of light workouts and cardio exercise is the best possible thing you can do. Not only will this stave off medical problems, but it will also help you to lead a general healthy lifestyle where you will not drink too much or smoke.

Another reason to get exercise is not only for a healthy body but also for a healthy mind. Studies have shown that when you work out your body releases endorphins that act just like antidepressants and help you to have positive feelings. Therefore, if ever you are feeling low and depressed, the best thing you can do is simply head out for a run or a swim.

Of course, for many people, working out and keeping as fit as possible forms a massive part of their working life. Look at athletes, for example. They will all — in one form or another — get certain exercises and workouts that will help them to get to the top of their field in whatever they are trying to achieve and in whatever sport they are playing. Developing lean muscle growth is a great way to improve your sporting ability.

In the same way, other professions will also call for you to be fit. Take for example, the army. Anyone in the army is required to go through difficult stages of fitness on a regular basis in order to get them into peak physical condition. In fact, all through the armed services and other industries, people are required to keep fit and healthy so they can perform their duties well.

Of course, vanity also plays a massive part. It is not only vanity but generally wanting to attract the opposite sex that makes people want to look at good as they can.

All of these are common reasons why people like to work out and stay fit. If you ever need help with this, then it’s a good idea to enlist the help of a personal trainer to help you through your fitness regime.
